Looking after your mindset, not just your chest
Post-surgical low mood is common and rarely discussed
Post-surgical low mood is common and rarely discussed. Knowing it happens makes it considerably easier to sit through.
What is normal
A dip somewhere between day three and day ten, often just as the anaesthetic fully clears. Tearfulness, irritability, and a strange flatness after something you have wanted for years. Almost everyone gets some version of it.
What is not
Low mood that deepens rather than lifts after two weeks, or any thought of harming yourself. That is not a normal part of recovery and it is worth getting help for straight away.
Who to talk to
Your coordinator can put you in touch with a therapist experienced in this area. Ask — it is a normal request and we handle it without fuss.
